Professor Cook Inspires Students

Wendy Curtis —

Professor Gregory Cook  MSc PhD(Waik) FRSNZ from the department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Otago, gave a lively address this morning to a large group of budding social scientists and microbiologists.

He covered a wide range of issues from epidemics and pandemics, bacteria and viruses to much feared superbugs, antibiotic resistance and its impact on livestock and humans. Our students were fortunate to have such a committed scientist and educator in our school. There will be very few who will forget the role of Milk-bottles and Jaffas.

Greg has challenged our students as the future generation, to carry on the work in this significant field. As he said, the scientists are doing what they can, but it is a pressing political problem.
