Service to the School and the Community Recognised

This week’s Senior Assembly focused on service, both within and beyond the School.

The Rector outlined the importance of being an influencer through service and the important benefit that service makes you feel good about yourself and benefits others.

The boys heard an inspiring address from Mr Des Smith. Mr Smith dedicated 27 years of service to Otago Boys’ High School as Deputy Rector, teacher, Head of Boarding, sports coach and many other roles. He continues to work tirelessly for the betterment of OBHS.

Mr Smith has also made significant service contributions in the wider community through rugby but highlighted his involvement, alongside other volunteers, in two community projects in recent years: the fundraising and building of a new library at Waitati; and the sand restoration and enhancement of the reserve areas at Te Rauone Beach, Harrington Point on the Otago Peninsula.

Congratulations to those boys whose contributions were recognised.
