Bugger.

This has been a busy week, both for those at school and those away at sporting tournaments. Teams have participated in basketball, football, hockey, rugby, chess and squash tournaments at various locations around the country. Competition continues over the weekend with boys competing in South Island Schools’ Curling Championship. We wish them all the best.

After 13 years of the relatively carefree routine of school, trying to decide what comes next, preparing to leave our comfortable homes and to embrace independence. Although this speech is mostly aimed at those of us who are leaving, I’m sure that others can still relate. 

Ms Pru Casey (Teacher in Charge of Biology)is the recipient of the Maurice Wilkins Foundation Scholarship and is currently at the International Molecular Biology Conference in Nelson.

Two teams from Otago Boys’ qualified for this event and they travelled up to Ashburton to take on the regional winners from the rest of the South Island.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Nicholas Pryde on his selection onto the New Zealand team chosen to compete at the 2016 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Swimming Championships to be held in Canberra in September. His dedication to training and commitment to swimming has been rewarded with this fantastic achievement.  Well done Nicholas.

Year 13 student Christian Noakes is participating in the Gateway Programme and is hosted by Salmond College.

A group of 34 students ranging from Year 9 up to Year 13 enjoyed their trip to Coronet Peak at the weekend. Skiing conditions were excellent with fine weather and a good coating of snow without too much of the ice and slush common at this time of year. A large contingent of beginner skiers and snowboarders made impressive progress over the two days while the others explored the entire mountain. Already several boys are booking their spots on the trip for next year!

Pizza adaptations. Year 9 students are currently working on bread products. These are the creations from last Friday. The boys learnt to make the perfect dough and had free creational reign over their final pizza product.  YUM!

After an intense couple of days on the courts the South Island Secondary Schools' Basketball Tournament held in Dunedin has come to an end.

Congratulations to our basketball teams which won the silverware at the finals night of the Dunedin Secondary Schools’ Basketball Competition on Friday night.

Rabia’s visit, exclusively to Dunedin, has been organised by the Otago Medical Research Foundation with funds raised going to the Foundation’s work of establishing world-class research right here in the city.

The Post Primary Teachers' Association has arranged a meeting for Tuesday 6 September.  The PPTA has arranged this meeting under Section 26(2) of the Employment Relations Act 2000 to brief members on the key proposals in the Government's Funding Review.

The Parents Association are delighted to offer another exciting and fun filled evening to our school community. On September 9th at 6.30pm we will be hosting an evening of jewellery, clothing, and a little pampering by way of a nail therapist and hand massage therapist at the delightful Rockbourne House in York Place.

Otago Boys' will be taking a group of students on an expedition to Borneo in January of 2018, with World Challenge Expeditions. If you are interested, please contact justin.zani@obhs.school.nz.
