Our Grantees: Snow Farms Musterers Hut Official Opening 2022

Otago Community Trust —

Our intrepid Central Otago based trustees Andy Kilsby and Raewyn van Gool were delighted to attend the official opening of the Snow Farm’s Musterers Hut in late July. They joined dozens that hiked and skied 4.7km to the new 36-bed hut in Tranquility Basin.

Otago Community Trust was pleased to be one of several funders to support the new build, approving a $140,000 grant to advance the Musterers Hut in 2020 which will ultimately now allow even more community groups and schools to enjoy this special part of our region.

Snow Farm trust chairman Samuel "Q" Belk highlights that the Musterer’s Hut project was funded entirely by community grants and volunteer support. It is the fourth backcountry hut option now available at the Snow Farm.

"This hut was made possible as a result of several years of fundraising, the team banded together to raise more than $750,000 to build in the high alpine terrain and we have something special as a result"

Snow Farm is a not-for-profit organisation owned by the Pisa Alpine Charitable Trust.

It hosts more than 15,000 user days annually, including community groups, 33 schools from Christchurch to Invercargill and the growing Olympic sport of biathlon.

About the Musterers Hut

The Musterers Hut can sleep up to 36 people in many configurations. It has three eight-bed bunkrooms on one side and three four-bed bunkrooms.

Each side of the hut can be isolated by a partition wall in the middle, giving each side its own log burner, cooking, dining and entry. When booking, you can book the entire hut exclusively, the Westside of 12 beds or the Eastside of 24 beds, or book a bed or bunkroom.
