Our Grantees - New Mosgiel Pool Build

Otago Community Trust —

Construction is well underway in Mosgiel as the community’s new aquatic centre at Memorial Park takes shape.

Since March 2022 the new pool has been gradually taking shape. With the roof on, a community open day was held on the 28th of August for members of the community to see first hand the new  aquatic centre taking shape.

Our Deputy Chair, Barb Long attended the Roof Raiser event in late August and was impressed with the development.

"There were lots of people of all ages looking at the site, and many of them were elderly. It is great to see a resource that is going to cater for the needs of all in the community."   Barb Long, Otago Community Trust

The covered aquatic centre is due to open in May 2023. It will operate year-round, providing the community with an eight-lane 25 metre pool and hydrotherapy pool, a leisure pool with a toddler’s area, plus learn to swim and spa pools.

There will be family, male, female and gender neutral accessible changing rooms as well as a meeting/multiuse room for community use.

The car park will include e-vehicle and e-bike charging stations.

The construction team is also working with Aukaha on opportunities to weave cultural elements into the design and look of the building.

Demolition of the old 85-year-old Mosgiel pool began in early August, with the old pool now nowhere to be seen. The space occupied by the old pool will now become a car park for the new building.

Most of the exterior and internal wall framing has been completed.

Otago Community Trust was pleased to approve a $1.5m grant to support the Pooling Together - Taieri Community Facilities Trust with their fundraising towards the new pool in May 2018 and it is really pleasing to see the capital works project now coming to completion.
