National Volunteer Week by Sharron Bennett
Otago Community Trust — June 28, 2021
Sponsored by SBS Bank and organised by Volunteer South, the two organisations have come together in partnership to meaningfully celebrate tūao | volunteers, volunteering and volunteer-involving organisations and community groups across Ōtepoti.
The SBS Bank Dunedin Volunteer Awards are the first dedicated awards for recognising the enormous work that is done in the Ōtepoti community with volunteering. 2021 is the inaugural event.
Otago Community Trust is pleased to be the sponsor for two volunteer award categories:
Who is eligible for the SBS Bank Dunedin Volunteer Awards?
All volunteer-involving organisations, community groups, individuals and youth leader nominees must be volunteering within the Dunedin City Council boundaries. National organisations that have a branch in Dunedin City will be eligible. If there is no branch in the Dunedin City area, please get in touch with our team to discuss this at info@volunteerawards.nz
Community Categories
Any voluntary group or volunteer-based not-for-profit (for-impact) organisation or community group working in the interests of their community can be entered. The awards in this category are based on activities undertaken in the previous 12 months and cannot focus on an individual or future activities.
Individual Categories
Any person or volunteer group volunteering within the last 12 months and has shown the commitment and dedication for volunteering in their organisation or community group. Any individual should be volunteering with at least one group that is voluntary or volunteer-based and working in the interests of their community. If a volunteer is nominated and they volunteer in multiple places, the nomination from the organisation will be the deciding factor for inclusion as a finalist.
A volunteer group, or group of volunteers working together as a part of a project, event or volunteer programme may be nominated in the individual category. Volunteer South recognises that many organisations or community groups do not wish to single out individuals and so there is the ability for groups working together to be nominated as a part of this category.
Who can enter a group for the awards?
Anyone can nominate a group for the awards. All nominations must be completed using the official nomination form. Forms are available online here, or via hard copy at the Volunteer South offices and hubs, as well as at the Dunedin SBS Bank branch.
