The Grand Business South Awards 2022
Barbara Bridger — September 4, 2022
Welcome to our November Newsletter. It’s hard to believe that Christmas and the summer holidays are just around the corner. After some typical spring weather madness, it is nice to see the days draw out. This time of year is always a very busy one for organisations across the sector and here at the Trust we have also been busy with two large granting rounds in September and October with close to 100 applications being approved to support some great community projects.
Annual Public Meeting
It was our pleasure to host the 34th Annual Public Meeting in Alexandra on the 27th of September which was well attended with over 50 members of the community present.
Trustees and staff would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who took the time to attend. It was our pleasure to be able to share our activities, achievements and highlights for the year ending 31st March 2022.
A special thank you to our guest speakers Barry Grehan, Community Facilitator and Maz Cameron, Sticks 'n Stones advocate from Dunstan High School who provided wonderful insights into what it means to be involved with a youth led community group facilitating meaningful change in Central Otago.
For those who could not attend, if you wish to view the full Annual Public Meeting you can do so HERE.
New Trustees
We are pleased to welcome new trustee Tuari Potiki to the Otago Community Trust. Tuari’s career has predominantly been in the health, justice, and education sectors. Tuari is currently the Director of the Office of Māori Development at the University of Otago.
Tuari replaces Kevin Malcolm who completed his four-year term with the Trust. We thank Kevin for his contribution, and we look forward to the blend of skills and knowledge Tuari will bring to the board. All Trustee Bio's are available on our website HERE
'The Grand’ Business South Otago Business Awards
I had the privilege to attend ‘The Grand’ Business-South Otago Business Award’s evening last month where finalists for each award category were announced. We extend a special congratulations to The Malcam Trust, KiwiHarvest and Aroha ki Te Tamariki Trust - Mirror Services who have been shortlisted for the Excellence in Not for Profit award which Otago Community Trust is delighted to be sponsoring.
We look forward to announcing the overall Excellence in Not for Profit category winner at the special black-tie gala dinner later this month.
Office Close Down
Over the Christmas period our staff will be taking a well-earned break. The office will be closed from the 22nd of December to the 9th of January 2023. The Trust does not meet to approve grants in January. Our first Board meeting to consider grants for 2023 is the 21st of February 2023.
Online applications received up to the last day in December are likely to be considered at the February Board meeting. If you have not completed an online application before then you need to register first, and it is good to do this as soon as you are thinking about applying to us. Please note that applications received in January 2023 will be considered at the March Board meeting.
Should you have any questions regarding funding please feel free to contact me or any member of the Trust team, we are always happy to help.
Ngā mihi
Barbara Bridger, CE
