The OtagoExtra programme puts you ahead in today's competitive job market. It recognises your involvement in Employability, Experience, and Development activities.

What is OtagoExtra?

The OtagoExtra programme, managed online via the OtagoCareerHub, will give you the advantage in your job search. Build on key skills like communication, collaboration, and problem solving while working at your own pace – and take advantage of our career workshops, seminars and presentations held throughout the year. On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a certificate recognising your efforts.

How is the programme structured?

OtagoExtra helps you to consider how the extra- and co-curricular activities on and off campus can help you achieve your career goals. The programme has three core components: Employability, Experience and Development.

1. Employability

Get the foundations right before you start your job search. In this section you will:

• Create a strong CV, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile
• Build effective interview skills
• Develop networking skills
• Plan steps for a smooth transition from university into a graduate role

2. Experience

In this section you will increase your employability and build on your experience through:

• Volunteering
• Internships
• Work placements and experience
• Job shadowing

3. Development

In this section you will focus on your strengths, and your key development areas. You will extend yourself with activities that develop transferable skills such as:

• Communication
• Team work
• Leadership
• Problem-solving

Take our five online career modules available via Blackboard (CareerHub sign-in required) and gain valuable career development knowledge and skills. The career modules each relate directly to Employability, Experience, and Development components of the OtagoExtra programme.
