Zoom, do you have the latest version?

Distance Learning —

Ask Otago IT Support have been working with Zoom developers on password issues that many have been experiencing.  The latest update they have received from Zoom appears to have resolved this issue. If you have not done so already, please update to the latest version of Zoom (please see our help site for details on how to do this: https://blogs.otago.ac.nz/zoom/how-to-update-zoom/).

Also, please be aware that if a password is entered incorrectly 5 times whilst trying to join a Zoom meeting, then access to any Zoom meeting will be blocked for 30 minutes. This is a security feature of Zoom.

Currently, there is no warning from Zoom that you will be/have been blocked. This has been raised with Zoom and will hopefully be added in a future update. In the meantime, please take care when entering passwords to prevent this from occurring.

If you experience any other issues with passwords, please contact econferencing@otago.ac.nz.

As a reminder, any new meetings scheduled and Personal Meeting rooms now automatically have passwords.  To find and/or edit the password for your Personal Meeting please see the following Zoom help site: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362843-Personal-meeting-ID-PMI-and-personal-link#h_27cabbf1-3eaa-44fd-8ead-81b2a848a8ea.

Also, any previously scheduled meetings that are edited will have a password added.

Passwords on any remaining unedited meetings will be automatically added from 1st June 2020.
