Distance Learning — Dec 31, 2022

eVision is the University’s Student Management System (SMS) and is supported by ITS Information Systems.

This system, used by both staff and students, is where the following activities happen:

Depending on your role and your responsibilities, you will be given certain levels of access to eVision. Information about applying for access, and training available, is listed in the AskSMS Access, Security and Training FAQ section.

eVision elearning materials and support can be found in the Blackboard site "EV_TRAIN:eVision Training" especially set up for this purpose. (Log into Blackboard and you will see the EV_TRAIN:eVision Training site in your list of 'papers' that you are enrolled in.)

New staff members

If you are a new staff member, or have a changed responsibility and need to gain access to eVision, you should get the access request to eVision started as soon as possible, as it can take a few days, or more in busy periods. This will provide you with access to Blackboard where most of the resources you will need to consult are.

Once eVision staff have an idea of the access needed, they will provide access to the Blackboard online courses required and/or point you in the direction of training to take you through information about Course Approval.  If the eVision staff think the request for access you make is unreasonable or that it doesn’t seem to fit the staff member’s role, they will query the request with you or with your HoD.

Existing staff members

For existing staff who are starting to deal with distance students, there is very little difference on the staff screens between those who are distance students and those who are on-campus students – just look for campus mode on papers: "I" is designated to campus papers and "E" is the label indicating a distance paper.

Students will also see additional screens for selecting exam centres, confirming distance papers etc.
