Student Learning Development Support

The Higher Education Development Centre (HEDC) offers Student Learning Development (SLD) services to support distance students at all levels of study.

Individual consultations

HEDC staff on the Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and Southland campuses are available for face-to-face support on campus, or advice via email, telephone, or Skype/Zoom on a wide range of postgraduate and undergraduate writing and study skills. This includes assistance with grammar, punctuation, editing skills, note-taking, summarising and paraphrasing, exam preparation, and thesis writing. They also provide on-campus workshops and often coordinate with block courses where possible to ensure distance students have the opportunity to attend.

Workshops

Writing and study skills workshops are offered at the Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington campuses. As a distance student, it may be possible for you to attend a workshop via Zoom. Please check with the respective campus to see if this is possible (see contact information below). Alternatively, HEDC staff are happy to discuss any of these workshop topics in an individual consultation with you. Information on workshops is available on the HEDC website.
