Pacific product branding for OCHO by Otago Polytechnic

Chocolate box

A new branding concept for OCHO celebrates the flavours of the Pacific.

OCHO is a chocolate manufacturer which uses cacao from Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Fiji. They sought a sustainable time-efficient solution for their chocolate gift packaging.

Communication Design student Danni Cuthbertson took up the challenge. Danni is interested in using identity systems to sell local, ethical and future-conscious products. This project became a cultural collaboration with Dunedin-Samoan artist Ana Teofilo.  For the project they worked with a new product concept which is not yet in production: mini chocolate cacao pods.

Their final design not only solves OCHO's current design problem, it also acknowledges the crucial Pacific origin and terroir of the cacao beans through contemporised Pacific Island design. This conceptual prototype will inform OCHO's thinking for marketing in the future.
