Year 5/6 Trip to the Buddhist Temple
The 7th 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing kick started on the morning of 3rd May 2021. There were 210 Otahuhu Primary students from Year 4 - 6 led by 30 teachers and parents visiting the Auckland Temple for the first time.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the BLIA members and volunteers. The students learnt about the value of Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings through interesting activities like bathing the Buddha, striking the wishing well, making lotus flower origami, Tai Chi and mindfulness meditation. The Temple also specially prepared delicious refreshments, Laba Congee, for the students. There were 4 police officers who came to support the event and interacted with the students.
The students shared that they enjoyed the mindfulness meditation session and felt very comfortable and peaceful. One of the tour guides mentioned that the Temple is a spiritual home for the community and they are welcome back anytime.
The teacher leader, Fatima Dollie, expressed her gratitude to the Temple for organising such an empowering, eductational experience. The teachers, parents and students were speaking highly of their experience and they are looking forward to coming back again.
