Home learning and Māori TV education programmes Home Learning | Papa Kāinga TV and Māori Television will start education programme broadcasting for early learners and students (Years 1–10). Home Learning | Papa Kāinga TV will be shown, free to air, on TVNZ channel 2+1 and on TVNZ on Demand, as well as on Sky Channel 52. It will run from 9am to 1pm on school days with programming for children and young people aged 0 to 15, as well as for parents. Home Learning TV will initially be on air for one month – with provision to extend beyond that depending on the lockdown situation.

Programme content

Programming will be grouped for early learners, primary and secondary students. All programmes will feature highly experienced teachers and presenters, along with a range of wellbeing and movement experts and will include:

  • Play
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Te reo Māori
  • Physical education
  • Music
  • Wellbeing
  • Pacific languages content.

Māori Television te reo content will focus on learning at home for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau, aged between 0 to 18 who are in kōhanga reo, puna reo, kura tuatahi and wharekura. It will also be tailored to specific age groups throughout the day, with learning content tamariki can do on their own, with their siblings or together as a whānau.

Māori Television will be broadcasting around 300 hours of educational content for ākonga and whānau over the next 10 weeks. A number of Māori production companies have been engaged who have expertise and history in creating te reo Māori television content catering to a range of age levels. Programming will feature some of the most recognised faces in te ao Māori.
