Otumoetai Intermediate Communications —

Otumoetai Intermediate School had two teams entered in the BOP Regional Chess Championships held recently.

On Friday 26th August, two teams of Otumoetai Intermediate chess players headed to the Mount Sports Centre for a day of intense Chess matches. There was a full hall with teams competing in Primary, Intermediate and Secondary divisions.

Our A team consisted of Duki Stojanovic, Noah Park, Ryan Baveystock, Praveer Oberoi and reserve Josh Kolesky.

Our B team were Tamara Morris, Louis Thomson, Nat Dingle, Emerson Barber and Sophie Stevenson.

The competition was tough with some very long and intense games. John Paul College in Rotorua dominated the Intermediate division and came away with the Gold medal.

Competition was close for the rest of the teams. Out of 9 schools in the Intermediate section our B team placed a commendable 5th. Our A team were tied for second place, but on count back were half a point in front of Tauranga Intermediate, so took out the Silver medal. Our top 1 player, Duki Stojanovic was awarded top player in his board position.

Congratulations to all of our Chess players.
