Showcase 2022 was a fantastic opportunity for the students of Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School to perform for their friends and family. There were various Music Academy Bands, a Dance Group, Drumline, Wearable Arts and our Performing Arts Academy involved for this years Show.

Music Academy had 3 bands perform a range of music from a variety of artists. From Rock band guitar solos to dance moves, students said it’s been a highlight of the year so far being able to show what they have been working hard on for the past term. To see everyone perform together on stage, and see everyone grow as musicians throughout the week was amazing to see. Our Bands performed songs from a range of musicians such as Michael Jackson, Guns n Roses, Lady Hawke, Sam+Dave and the Greatest Showman.

It was great fun being able to perform with friends in a band to a live audience” - Tyson James

It was great being able to see a range of different acts in the Showcase, everyone did a great job” – Dane Wheatcroft

The school's Drumline Group loudly finished off the Music section to the Showcase. Our biggest drumline group even performed an original song that was written by past and present students. It is great to see first-time performers and experienced musicians come together to rhythmically write and perform music.

It was great to be part of the biggest drumline and see so many involved, everyone did amazing”- Stella Hoskin

The wonderful world of wearable arts. This year the students have been creating outfits inspired by the theme ‘The Beach”. Hours of work have gone into constructing and building these masterpieces. The students cleverly used recycled materials and found different uses for normal everyday items.

“I loved creating a costume with my friend and sharing it with my family on stage” – Chloe Song

What a blast the Performing Arts Academy had producing a few scenes from the musical "Oliver Twist" in this year's Showcase. Everyone worked extremely hard, had lots of fun, and learned a lot from one another. A lot of practice in costume paid off in the end so that we could nail all the quick costume changes.

It was great to have a contemporary group dance part of Showcase this year. One of our students, Katy McLeod choreographed this dance especially for showcase, dancing alongside 6 other talented dancers from our kura. The dance was choreographed to a song called Ghosttown by Benson Boone.

"It is so fun performing to everyone after practising for so long. I am so proud of myself and everyone else who helped bring this show to life. My goal is to become the greatest actor I can be." – Louie

"It was such an amazing experience and I have been introduced to an awesome community. One thing that I felt worked well was the supportive array of people and a really great venue to practice at. One thing that didn't work well was not listening to the teacher while she was speaking, as this led to confusion." – Rhys

A massive thank you to all our supporters who have encouraged us throughout the journey leading up to Showcase this year. A shout out to all the backstage crew, parent helpers, and light and sound crew who voluntarily gave their time to pull it all together. We appreciate and value your support. We look forward to the next performance.
