Students from our school attended a waka ama tournament in Pilot Bay organised by Te Wharekura o Mauao recently.

The waka ama team consisted of Ngakumama Te Mete, Malia Masoe, Jizelle Masoe, Francella Nafoi-Seumalo and Suzie Heke. The girls were excellent representatives of the school.

As a team, they demonstrated respect, humility, and teamwork. There were several races in which they were ahead by a whole boat length. As a result, the girls advanced to division one.

Out of twelve teams, they placed second. An excellent achievement.

The team that beat them in the last round consisted of all boys and they just tipped them at the end. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
