Tauranga City Council have developed a plan to improve safety on Sherwood Street and Little John Drive to help reduce the speed of vehicles in this area

What
The safety improvements include:
Sherwood Street
- A raised pedestrian crossing on Sherwood Street close to Crombie Street with 25km/h signs
- New pedestrian crossing lighting for better visibility
- Footpath and kerbing works
- New road markings on the pavement surface
- Additional advance warning signage
- Vegetation clearing to improve pedestrian and driver sight lines
- Replacement of the tactile indicators with more durable tactile pavers at the Ōtūmoetai Primary School existing pedestrian crossing on Sherwood Street, adjacent to the school swimming pool.
Little John Drive
- An upgraded pedestrian refuge island on Little John Drive
- New pedestrian pram crossings with tactile pavers where the kerb drops onto the road
- New footpath and kerbing works
- New road markings
- Replacing the existing cobble pavement with a new asphalt pavement
- Safety barrier replacement
- Vegetation clearing to improve pedestrian and driver sight lines.
When
We will complete some site investigations to locate services before Christmas. The construction work will start in early January 2024 and will take four to six weeks to complete. This work is weather dependent.
