On Friday 5 August around 120 students competing in Hockey, Netball, Rugby, and Football made their way to their various locations around Tauranga to compete in the Winter Tournament. Football was played at Fergusson Park, and Hockey, Netball, and Rugby were played at Blake Park.

It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining when the bus dropped players off at Blake Park at 8:15 a.m. The three hockey teams, Girls, Boys, and Mixed A teams walked in and started to get ready for the first round of games. At the Winter Tournament for hockey, there were 6 different schools competing: Mokoia, Mount, Whakatane, Gisborne, Tauranga, and Otumoetai Intermediate. At 9:15am the first round started and the teams began to play. The Girls and Mixed A teams played five games, and the Boys A played four throughout the day, with good results. The Mixed A placed fourth, losing three games and winning two, and the Girls and Boys A both were victorious, winning all their games and coming first.

All in all, the Winter Tournament was a good display of hockey and sportsmanship and is a good lead-up and practice for the upcoming Zespri AIMS Games in week 7. Everyone was super happy at the end of the day with their performance and the bus was very loud on the way back!
