DEC Winter Competition

Otumoetai Intermediate Communications —

6 of our talented dancer preformed a troupe contemporary dance at the DEC Winter Competition. Click here to read more about it.

For the showcase, 6 dancers and I performed a troupe contemporary dance that we had been tirelessly rehearsing for several weeks prior to it. It was a huge success gaining many compliments from viewers so we collectively decided that we’d perform it again at a local dance competition. Again, more strenuous rehearsals and a lot of drama trying to get as many people able to make it to the comp. I remember at one point we had 6 people on board then it dropped to 4 (which is the bare minimum you must have in a troupe) but thankfully, somebody’s plans changed so we were able to have 5 people including myself compete at the comp. Trying to respace it for the new amount of people and re-choreograph accordingly for a competition setting was tough but it was all worth it. We finally came to the day where we’d perform it one last time and understandably, we were all freaking out and our nerves were reaching a whole new level. When we hit the stage, though, everything went away and we all had a great time doing what we love - dancing. In the end, we got our results and we placed VHC beating a few other troupes who have probably been preparing the entire year. Overall I am so proud of the commitment and dancing we have all given, even when we feel as if we’re about to collapse after an intense practice, and I would do it all again.
