Year 8 Rutherford

Otumoetai Communications —

Slippery as an eel!

We had some very slippery and slimy specimens in Rutherford Science this morning.

The Year 8 students researched and presented their findings on six different varieties of eels, three of which we had in class thanks to some very generous people.

A big thank you to Macklin Whale’s dad, Peter, who gave us a Snake or Serpent Eel; Waikato University for the amazing Basketwork Eel, caught around 1000m down near White Island; and the Conger Eel, donated to us by Dion at WildFish NZ. This was couriered to us overnight from the lower North Island.

Some fascinating information was shared and it was awesome to see some of these animals close up and have a hands-on experience with them.
