Term 2 Week 3

D1NZ Drifters Visit

On Thursday the 4th of May, we were lucky enough to have some of New Zealand's top D1NZ drift car athletes and their cars visit our school.

The drivers were Kurt Blackie and his V8 powered GT86, Sam West in his 2jz powered 180sx and Clayton Dalley with his V8 powered supra.

A handful of students across all classes, had the chance to come and listen to these top drivers talk to them about their passion for motorsport and how to get into it; keeping motorsport safe, fun and legal; what got them involved in drifting and how much it costs to do drifting - with Kurt saying his car is over $100,000 to build (which the kids couldn’t believe!)

Kurt, Sam and Clayton brought along some stickers, posters and flyers for the students to have, as well as time where they were inundated signing these posters or stickers. The students thoroughly enjoyed this!

At the end, all three drivers started up their cars (which were quite loud) and gave them a few revs! It was decided by all the students that Sam’s 2jz powered car was the loudest and therefore the winner!

It was fantastic to see all the students enjoying this experience and meeting the drivers - even some were able to sit in their cars! All three drivers said afterwards what a great school and students they were.

The final round for the 2023 D1NZ season is next weekend at Baypark on 12th and 13th May. It should be a cool event! (see poster here and photos from their visit).
