On Thursday the 8th of December, the Ōtūmoetai Intermediate cricket team competed against a touring Australian squad, the Shaun Brown Cricket Academy. The academy was made up of 11-14 year olds from all parts of Australia. They undertook a tour of New Zealand's north island competing against teams from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and Tauranga.

The OIS team were excited to compete against an international team and brought their A-game for the affair. After winning the toss, Ōtūmoetai batted well to finish the 40 over innings 7/210 behind strong performances from Sol Osbourne, Travis Todd and Jack Veale. Following the lunch break, OIS continued their good form with the ball constricting SBCA in the early overs and taking wickets regularly to put the pressure on the visiting team. All the bowlers contributed, with notable spells from Harry Parkes and Sol. Ōtūmoetai were most impressive in the field taking some difficult catches and some sharp run-outs. SBCA eventually succumbed to the OIS attack, all out for 127.

Although there were a few cheerful jibes from the Kiwi team regarding sandpaper and underarm deliveries, the game was played in a great spirit overall and the Ōtūmoetai team should be commended for the way they played the game. Jack Veale was acknowledged by the SBCA coach as the 'player of the match' after a great captain's knock of 63 runs.

Well done to all and a great way to send off many of our Year 8 players!
