Marley's Dance Competition: NZDA
Marley Chisholm is an exceptional dancer who recently showcased her talent at the NZDA Regionals (New Zealand Dance Awards), the largest dance competition in New Zealand. She achieved an impressive 4th Gold place in both her lyrical and jazz performances, which earned her a spot in the finals. This puts her in the running for the title of New Zealand's best dancer in her age category.
Marley has been dancing for nearly four years, beginning her journey at the age of nine at the Azalea Keegan Dance Academy. She was offered a place in the competitive senior elite group when she was ten. Throughout her time there, she has participated in around ten competitions.
Marley had this to say about the dance competition, her experience as a dancer and her plans for the future...
"This competition was especially nerve-racking because only the best dancers can qualify. I was more nervous about my lyrical dance but I think I performed better. Fortunately, I qualified for nationals, which offered me the chance to be New Zealand's best dancer for my age. But I won't be able to compete because I am moving to Australia soon. I could have never got this far without a special person. I would like to acknowledge, my dance teacher, Azalea, for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best dancer I can be. In Australia, I want to continue improving and excelling at dance, become a professional dancer and eventually create my own dance company."
With talent like hers, she is sure to make it far. We will all miss Marley dearly but are excited for the new chapter of her life in Australia.
