Sports Review
Winter sports

I just wanted to give a little report on sport in term 3. It was an opportunity for those new and experienced in years 5-8 to go to Hagley Winter sports on Friday afternoon. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience and skills in Netball and Football while competing against other schools. As previously mentioned I was immensely impressed with all the students adapting to new teams, sports and rules.
I should also mention the Winter Tournament, held with the other South East zone schools at Hagley. This is a one day tournament. Our Netball teams coped extremally well when the event could not be completed due to a double booking of the netball courts and the Football team, well they won how fabulous.
The Football team did so well in the Canterbury Winter Tournament football final. They won 3 out of their 6 games despite some niggling end of season injuries, and playing a 5 aside game in spite of not having much practice.
Years 3 and 4 have been focusing on Hockey, Netball and Gymnastics. I have been very pleased to see their skills and learning develop in this area. In this respect I have been impressed with the year 3's increasing maturity and listening skills and the year 4's getting stuck into skills they will need for competing in year 5.
This term has seen a big focus on PMP for St Francis working in teams and moving round to different stations. They all worked very well and it was wonderful to see them so engaged and enjoying the tasks set.
Next term our first focus will switch to Athletics with the Athletics days already on the school calendar. The dates always being based on the South East zone athletics tournament. The seniors early in order to work out entries and the juniors having a date which allows a good amount of practice time.
I am pleased to learn that starting next term there will be a Touch team. This has been kindly organised by Abby and Gareth D'Almeida. It is a wonderful opportunity for the children involved and wonderful to have our school represented at the tournament.
Thank you again to teachers, Petrina, parents and students who have all helped lead and accommodate sport this term, you are outstanding. We have some fabulous young leaders in the making.
Finally thank you for Lip Sync. Each class now has some sports equipment they have been putting to great use at break times.
