We are a little unsure where the term has gone, but it sure has been a busy one! The Year 5 students are counting down the days until they head off to Waihola for their four day camping experience. The Year 4 students are already beginning to get excited about their first taste of school camp at Waiora in Term 4.
Some of our highlights of this term include...
~ Lessons about reputation, identity, decisions and emotions with Pip and Harold in the Life Education classroom.
~ Creating self portraits of ourselves to decorate our classroom and share at assembly. We learnt a lot about the placement of facial features.
~ Golf coaching with Melanie from Futures Golf. We used flags initially to get the feel of how to swing a golf club. From there we used an iron to hit progressively smaller balls off the tee. We discovered that some of our classmates were natural golfers. Others were surprised by how much they enjoyed learning this new skill.
~ Creating our class waka and treaty - He waka eke noa - We are all in this together. We spoke about the expectations we have of each other to ensure we have a successful year of learning. These included using our school values, completing our work to a high standard, and giving all things a go. We even created expectations for our teachers and teacher aides! Mrs Carter gave us a sneak peek of her planning to prove that she comes to school ready to teach. She is continuing to work on her jokes though, which is another expectation we have of our teachers! The lettuce joke really wasn't funny...
~ Receiving dictionaries from the Rotary Clubs of Taieri and Mosgiel. Neville Goodsir presented these to every Year 4 student on behalf of Rotary.
~ Getting to know our new classmates and catching up with old friends at playtime. Handball is very popular! As is Wheels Day.
~ Working with big numbers in Maths and solving tricky problems.
~ Lane and Arlo have enjoyed being part of the Term 1 Builders Group. Others will have this opportunity at a later date.
Of course, we have been doing a lot of reading, writing, spelling, music, sport, Allen Centre time and swimming too. It's been a busy term. Just the way we like it!
Hello Autumn, Goodbye Summer!
Collaborative Poetry by Room 8
Room 8 farewelled summer and welcomed autumn with some poetry. Our poetry was inspired about things we will miss and also won't miss about summer, and things we were excited to welcome in autumn, and also things we maybe weren't so excited to welcome! Our challenge was to use two adjectives to describe the noun in each sentence and write as a team with our buddy. Enjoy!
Hello Autumn - Written by Cooper and Georgia
Hello, cold autumn days.
Goodbye, yummy cool juicy ice blocks.
Hello, crunchy chewy leaves.
Goodbye, swimming in the fresh contour water.
Hello, frozen dirty pond water.
Goodbye, soapy slippery slides!
Hello autumn, I hope you fly by!
Goodbye summer, come back soon.
Hello Goodbye - Written by Tarryn and Iyla
Hello autumn, I just want summer back.
Goodbye, yummy strawberry ice cream, melting in the sun.
Hello, wet muddy mornings.
Goodbye, warm sunny mornings.
Hello, damp crunchy leaves.
Goodbye, jumping into the cold clear pool.
Hello, white happy Easter Bunny.
Goodbye, summer. I’ll miss you.
