Fern Fever Festival

Girls Have A Go Day!

On Monday this week many of our Year 5 and 6 girls opted to attend the Fern Fever festival at Logan Park. The girls gave four different sporting codes a go - hockey, rugby, cricket and football. For many of the girls, this was their first time trying most of these sports.

The Otago and Southern divisions of these sports presented their sports to the girls through a variety of fun skill-focused activities and game situations.

Wrestling followed by running into hit shields was a highlight at the rugby rotation. As was kicking the rugby ball over the mini posts. Beating the times of the other schools by knocking over the cricket wickets was a fun cricket activity.

It is always a pleasure to take the girls to this day and see them approaching these new sports with confidence, grit and determination.

FERN  FEVER!

On Monday the Year 5 and 6 girls went to Logan Park to try a range of other sports.

RUGBY

At rugby, we got to play ripper rugby. People scored lots of tries.

Then we did goal kicking. It was fun. After that we went on to swerving through the poles with the ball to put it on the cone.

We did the tackle bags and we tried to knock people down.

HOCKEY

At hockey, we rested the hockey sticks during a game of Octopus.

Then we played a game of hockey. We wore bibs and everybody hated wearing the bibs. After that we played numbers hockey with bibs again!

CRICKET

At cricket, we played a game of non-stop cricket.

When we played snowballs, we had to hit the wickets down.

Then we had two teams on opposite sides of the wickets and we had to hit the wickets down.

SOCCER

At soccer, we played two games of soccer. Two teams had to wear bibs. Then we had to go into a circle and kick the ball around the circle and try to not kick the ball out of the circle.
