Rakahuri Bike Blast

Kendra Ward —

On Monday the 23rd of November, 30 Year 5-8 students competed in the Rakahuri Bike Blast at the Rangiora mountain bike trails.

We had our largest team yet compete at the bike blast this year. Thirty  students (15 teams) participated. The aim of the day was to complete a mountain bike course of approximately 3 km, tag your buddy and change over the time and lap tracker, for them to complete the course. Then repeat that process as many times as possible over 3 hours. There was big competition this year, with 135 teams entered across Year 5-8 from many North Canterbury Schools.

The children did really well and enjoyed the event which challenged many of them physically as the time went on! It was a great day and luckily the weather held out.

Our best placings were Alice and Myles McLauchlan in the Year 7/8 mixed category, who placed 4th/14. Nathaniel Sillars & Sam Froud in the Year 5/6 boys who placed 12th/33, and Eru Te Awa and Dominic Mullis who placed 14th/33.

Thank you to the parents who came and supported their child and/or their child's buddy. A special thank you to Julie Shore for organising some training sessions for the children and her support in setting up and managing the team on the day.
