School Calendar update

OAS —

With all the disruption to the first term, our school year has been reduced by 4 half days.

The recent lockdown has meant a few adjustments for the school year.

We are required as an Area School to be open for 380 half days per year.  Due to one of the planned teacher only days being on the 28th April and the movement of the school holidays and positioning of public holidays over lockdown, this has been reduced by 4 half days.

Term 1, 9 weeks 29th Jan to 27th March 82 half days, one TOD (was 100 half days)

Term 2, 12 weeks 15th April to 3rd July 110 half days (was 96 half days)

Term 3, 10 weeks 20th July to 25th Sep 100 half days

Term 4, 9 weeks 12th Oct to 10th Dec 84 half days = 376

Teacher Only Day update

In the 2019 negotiated collective agreement for Area School teachers, it was agreed upon by unions that there would be 8 additional teacher only days over the next three years (2020, 2021 and 2022).

Due to the impact of Covid-19, the Accord group, along with the Secondary Principals’ Association of New Zealand (SPANZ), and New Zealand Secondary Principals’ Council (SPC), have agreed to make the following changes to the yearly allocation of the teacher only days:

  • There will be no teacher only day 6th August 2020. Schools and students need this time for teaching and learning and this day will now be school as usual.
  • The will be a teacher only on the 19th November 2020 will continue as planned
  • The eight days will now be allocated as follows: one day scheduled for 2020, three for 2021, and four for 2022
