Scooters, Skateboards and Bikes

Jacqui Paterson —

Students can bring scooters, skateboards and bikes to school but we do have some rules around their use once inside the school grounds.

The expectation is that all students wear helmets when riding any of these on the school grounds. Bike helmets, of course, is law outside of the school as well.

We have some designated areas that students can use their wheels at school. This helps to keep netball and basketball courts free for ball games and to ensure that other areas are safe for students to run around without the risk of being hit.

Years 1-4 can use the marked area at the front of the school outside Kowhai. Years 4-6 can use the school car park at the front of the school which is also marked. Years 7-13 are permitted to skate and bike at one end of the senior courts. Students have been asked to push their wheels when getting from one place to another.

Students in Years 1-6 have been shown these areas and have been informed by Home room teachers and at assemblies about these. This system has been running for a couple of years now. There are bike and scooter racks in this area to avoid having to move them around the school. There are cameras on these ramps for security.
