NCEA exam timetable and candidate information

Sharyn Varcoe —

We are now very close to NCEA external examinations. Y11-13 students entered for external NCEA examinations should already have a study programme in place to complement the work they are doing in class.

The last day of school before examinations is Thursday 12th November.
This Thursday, during Learning Mentor time, students were given information about the examinations and the end of the school year. This included that Years 11-13 students should only be onsite after the 12th November if they are attending an examination or have pre-arranged with a teacher to attend a tutorial or catch-up. Students should not be onsite at other times.

Students should be familiar with the NCEA exam timetable 2020
All Y11-13 students received their admission slip during Learning Mentor time on Thursday this week. They must bring this to each of their exams.

NZQA have published their rules and instructions for candidates which is attached for your use. Please take the time to read this. If your young person has any questions about the external examinations they should ask their subject teacher or Ms Varcoe as soon as possible.

Study should be active and often. A few tips for our students in the lead up to the examinations:

  • Make a diary study plan now if you haven't already. First, what commitments do you already have? Music practice, sports games, cultural activities, part-time work - add them in. Then, prioritise your learning. Which subjects do you find hardest? When would be best to tackle them?
  • Research shows that short chunks of study work best. For example 20 minute chunks separated by 5 minute breaks.
  • Study needs to be active. Flash cards, attempting old NCEA questions, asking someone to test you and summarising key ideas from memory are some tried and tested methods.
  • Feed your brain - healthy snacks, exercise and plenty of sleep will all ensure your brain is ready for effective study.
