School Sport Canterbury Service Award - Ashley Riley
Congratulations to Ashley Riley who was a recipient of a SSC service award for her contribution to basketball at Oxford Area School.
School Sport Canterbury recognises students who have made a significant service contribution to sport in their school in 2020.
Normally these students would be acknowledged at the annual SSC Zonta awards, but with these were cancelled this year. Ashley received this award at the Senior Prizegiving.
The Service Award is for a student's contribution to Sports Administration as a Coach, Manager or Official.
Ashley received this award for her contribution to both primary and secondary school basketball.
This year, Ashley was the player/coach of the girls basketball team and led them through to second place in the open Division 2, Section 2. When she was able to, she refereed some home games for the Oxford Area School Year 9-13 boys teams and assisted as Floor Controller.
Ashley has given six years' of service as a referee and coach to the Year 5-8 basketball plus 3 years as the Floor Controller in the Oxford Area School gym for the North Canterbury Basketball Association. She is currently coaching the top Year 8 team.
