Years 4-8 Athletics Day on Thursday 11 November. We have planned to hold a Years 4-8 Athletics Day on the senior field 9:15 am to 2:50 pm.

Julie Evans - November 2, 2021

All Years 4-8 students will compete in each event or a modified option to gain points for their Houses - sprints, long jump, high jump, discus/ gumboot throw, shot put/ bean bag toss and tennis ball throw. There will be opportunities for those who want to be in the more competitive events to participate at a higher level and try to break OAS Athletics Records. The day will conclude with House Relays.

All students need to wear the OAS red Sport/PE top, black shorts/leggings and sport shoes. They will need their water bottle, food for the day and clothing suitable for the weather conditions- layers if cool and sun protection if hot. As our breaks are different to a normal school day it is not possible to order from the tuck shop on this day.

As we are in Alert level 2 we sadly cannot have any spectators nor parent help.

Thankfully some Year 13 students will step up to run events and many of our Year 9/10 students will be assisting across all of the events. Huge thanks to these students.

If weather conditions are not ideal we will cancel this event due to our packed calendar. At the North Canterbury Primary Schools Sports Meeting last Thursday night we sadly had to cancel the Rakahuri Athletics due to Alert Level 2 restrictions currently in place in the South Island. Canterbury will make their decision mid November but definitely would need to be Alert Level 1.

A challenging environment at present to be able to offer students sporting events outside of school.
