House Day 2021 - Decade Day

Emma Don —

In Week 6 on Friday the 12th of March, we have our annual House Day. 2021 marks 10 years since the first House Day at Oxford, and it’s also the 10 year anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquake. After the February quake, the school was given funding to be aimed at improving and maintaining the mental health of students, and Oxford developed the House Day concept. That means it's been a decade since the very first House Day, and with that in mind, this year's House Day has been named Decade Day.

Each year dressing up is a big part of House Day, and the theme for each House will be a different decade - the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s.

Kaka (Blue House) is the 60s, focusing on the school value of caring.

Kereru (Red House) is the 70s, focusing on the school value of responsibility.

Tui (Green House) is the 50s, focusing on the school value of respect.

Weka (Black House) is the 80s, focusing on the school value of positive.

We would love to see everyone dressing up or you can come in your House colours, it’s a great opportunity not to be wearing school uniform.

The day will be based around a rotation. In the morning each House will get together for a House meeting. We have spot prizes for the best or most creative costumes, and you’ll run through the House chant.

Each House will move around the four rotations during the day, starting at 10am, Inflatarun, Crazy Bikes and Canterbury Cricket, Flag Making and Disco - these stations will be on or near the senior school field.

We will supply a BBQ on the day for students, this is free, we suggest that students also come to school with a packed lunch as this will just be a snack.

Students can bring money for Mr Whippy who will be here selling ice creams and slushies, not to mention Coffee for the adults! Ice Creams/Slushies will cost upwards of $5.00. Students must bring money if they want to purchase from Mr Whippy.

The canteen will be open for purchasing food and drink also. There will be no lunch orders on this day.

We would ask that ALL students come to school with a packed lunch, plenty of snacks, a water bottle, sunscreen and sunhat, we will spend most of the day outside and they need to be dressed to be active all day.

Any questions please contact your child's homeroom teacher in the first instance or email emma@oxford.school.nz for more information.

Feel free to come on down on the day!
