World Vision Youth Conference
Last Friday, 14 May, four Year 12 students attended the World Vision Youth Conference held at the Piano Centre in Christchurch.
Amy, Zara, Bella & Abigail went along to represent our school and gained valuable knowledge about what World Vision does, what it can offer young people in New Zealand and how to go about running an event, such as the 40 Hour Famine in a school setting.
One of the key messages was "You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop" Rumi, Persian poet. Everyone has a chance to do something - whether that be taking part in a 40 Hour Famine or taking a stand on climate change - roll up your sleeves and take action.
The girls learnt about how to respond to a crisis and in particular what they can do. The Volunteer Student Army was used as an example of how young people don't need money or expert skills or knowledge to take action and get involved.
The 40 Hour Famine has run in New Zealand for over 45 year. This year the money raised will go to children in sub-Saharan Africa. The World Vision 40 Hour Famine will be held on 25-27 June 2021. More information will come soon.
The final message from the conference was: You can choose what happens next. You can get involved or give. Take Action.
