OAS Senior netball team 2020

Lesley Inch —

After the cancellation of the South Island Secondary School netball tournament for 2020 and the on-off-on again format, we finally headed to Christchurch to play a regional netball competition over 3 days.

This tournament comprised of teams from the 2019 SISS A, B and C grades. We were pooled into 2 sections. Coming up against some tough competition the girls stepped up to keep scores close.

Results:

L St Margarets 42-10 (A grade team)

W Hornby  21 - 29 (C grade team)

L Avonside 31 - 16 (A grade team)

L Ellesmere 28 - 22 (A grade team)

W Hornby 14 - 26 (C grade team)

It was great to have a strong win for our last game to end the tournament. We were well led by our two captains who certainly led by example. Both Ella Taylor and Beka Hunt had outstanding tournaments. Ably joined by Cailey Hollard and Ashleigh Lawler who also were outstanding. Hillary Cooper, Sofia Tizzard, Abbie Buxton and Ella Evers certainly showed their determination and huge improvements throughout their games. Thanks must go to Rebekah Buxton who joined us just the week before to cover injury and illness. Rebekah, played several positions, each one making a solid impact in the game.

Thanks to Lisa Hollard our wonderful Manager and to Alyssa McCartin, from KHS who joined us as our umpire.

The girls had a fabulous tournament and played their hearts out. It was great to see the girls grow as players and as a team during our time away. Congratulations everyone.
