Visual Art - Success in spite of Covid

Charlotte Davis —

Students reached high levels of success in NCEA Art even with disruptions caused by the pandemic.

Students were faced with an enormous challenge in 2021. The threat of Omicron meant that they were suddenly asked to work from home, and this was particularly difficult for students taking practical subjects, like Art and Photography. Learning remotely last year was made even more difficult than in 2020, because of the timing. The 2021 lockdown was much closer to the external exams which meant the ability to self discipline, engage in digital conferencing with myself as their teacher, and make critical decisions, was imperative for success.

Students worked incredibly hard to maintain the standard and keep their process moving. This is evidenced in the excellent work produced last year. The Art Department and OAS is proud to present just a sample of the student artwork, to demonstrate the quality of painting and photography submitted for NCEA Levels 1 to 3.
