School Uniform

Mike Hart —

At Oxford Area School we have an established uniform designed to ensure it is comfortable to learn in, affordable and caters for the range of weather conditions we are exposed to in Oxford.

Our Board of Trustees unanimously believes in our uniform code and the need for students to adhere to this.

Why do we have a uniform?

  • Uniforms give students a sense of belonging to a particular school and create an identity for the school in the community.

  • A school uniform teaches students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance.

  • A uniform means students don't have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like compared to our peers isn't so important.

  • A uniform helps students to understand rules and how to abide by them. As students get older and start to experience the workforce, they begin to realise that the workplace has rules. Sometimes this includes a dress code. By having a uniform code and enforcing it, we are teaching and reinforcing this with our students.

As the weather changes and heads towards autumn, we start to see variances in our uniform, particularly non-uniform tops. We ask for your support as parents/caregivers to ensure our son/daughter leaves for school in the correct uniform. If for some reason a uniform item is unavailable (damaged, lost etc), it is essential your son/daughter comes to school with a note from you and they will be issued with a temporary exemption.

We will support families with financial hardship to ensure their son/daughter is in correct uniform. Just come in, see us and we will help.

Don’t forget to name your clothing - every year we end with a number of lost property bins with copious amounts of unnamed uniform items. These items if unclaimed by the end of the year are washed and used to support other students into the correct uniform.
