Kia ora koutou katoa

While the USA battle it out for Presidential supremacy, back here in little ole Oxford nominations for Parent Trustee mid-term elections have closed. We have had three nominations filed to fill two positions which means a vote will be required.

Very shortly election papers will be sent out and as parents of Oxford Area School, we think it very important that you take the time to vote. Every eligible voter should vote to ensure that the elected Board represents the community and has a good mix of gender, ethnicity, skills and experiences. This can make a positive difference to our students' learning.

Voting can be done by selecting two of the candidates you think are most suited for the position then dropping your voting papers into the school office or posting. Voting will close at 4pm on December 4th. Posted votes must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 5 days after the election date, 4th December. Late votes cannot be counted, so get your votes in early. The elected Trustees will take office on December 11th.

Several months back we had the resignation of Lesley Morris from our Board of Trustees. Her position had to be filled with a casual vacancy, which meant someone had to express interest in taking on this position and filling it for about 18 months, at which time will be the triennial elections. If this person wishes to continue from there they must go through the election process.

We would like to congratulate Sonya Miller who expressed interest, was willing to join the Board of Trustees and fill this vacant position. We look forward to Sonya bringing her skill set and experience into our meetings. We are sure she will be a very valuable team member to provide good governance and management for our school and be very helpful in ensuring the best possible outcomes for all our students.
