Netsafe Whānau Evening

Oxford Area School —

Oxford Area School is hosting a Netsafe whānau evening on Tuesday 18 May at 7pm.

This session is for parents and caregivers of young people of all ages and will be facilitated by an education advisor from the Netsafe Education and Schools Team (NEST).

The one hour session will be based around the following:

  • Harmful Digital Communications - what is it? How to recognise it as parents and as a young person?
  • What practical steps can one take as a parent to reduce, prevent, and respond to online harm?
  • Important conversation starters to have with your children about their technology use and how these can help reduce the risk.
  • Understanding the digital landscape - latest statistics on young people's experiences online.
  • Supporting families to understand that not all screen time is equal. Distinguishing between active and passive use.
