Incredible Artwork from Oxford Area School Students

Charlotte Davis —

Students have once again impressed with the caliber of Artwork they produced for NCEA in 2022.

2022 was another year disrupted by Covid. Many Art students struggled to keep up, missing lessons throughout the year due to their own, and family illness.

Art, being a practical subject, makes catch up tough. Not everyone has the luxury of space to work at home. We are extremely proud of the students who rose to the challenge by filling in the many missed hours, after school and at home, to produce folios with excellent results. The images below show the external exam work from Year 11 to Year 13.

The students are: Year 11 - Lucy Snell, who created work about a world existing between her dreams and reality.  Ella Luscombe,  who wanted to show a life centered on farming, Nikayla Beer, was interested in portraying what life could be like living in a big city and Jess Booth, created her work inspired by her favourite childhood story.

In Year 12 - Charlotte Brett created a series of surrealist works depicting a 1950s space theme. Shanae Wyllie explores the positive effects of Christianity, on countries like war torn Africa, Kyla Hirini-King was interested in depicting imaginary worlds and animals, and Hannah Baard's concept involves the generational impact of war on families.

Year 13 - Cailey Hollard looked at the way elderly people are viewed in society and uses knitting to symbolise family connection and knowledge passed down, and Zara Frahm was intrigued by the changing weather patterns in New Zealand, and how tornadoes and cyclones have become more frequent, during her lifetime.
