Year 1-6 Assembly - First assembly of 2021
Year 1-6 students held their first assembly of 2021 to celebrate learning.
Due to Alert Level 2 restrictions our Year 1-6 assembly was held for the first time without parents, caregivers or visitors. Students from both the Discover and Explore teams led us through the celebrations. It was also the first time we have held it in the morning at 9.15 am.
The assembly took its usual format starting with the National Anthem.
Team Explore shared some learning from Explore PS. An explanation of the learning was shared by a student who said, "This week in PS Explore we have been working on our String Writing. Our string writing has different words on each arrow. The words are there to help us to improve our work and to describe our work a lot more. We use them in our story. Some of the words on the arrows are: Why? Double up the detail. What is the next action? Jump back in time or fast forward." Students from this Homeroom shared their models and their writing. Please see the photos below.
We were then entertained by the song, Individuality, which was sung beautifully.
Two speakers from Team Discover described the work that Discover RC has been doing. Please see the Slide show attached. We learned about how students in this Homeroom have been working on a bridge-building technology challenge. We were told about the perseverance and collaboration that the students demonstrated. We learned that there were various levels of success with the challenge.
Mr Hart read the following poem to us:
Smile: A Poem by Spike Milligan
Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realized
I'd passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth.
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!
Certificates were presented to students from each Homeroom to acknowledge them as being exemplary role models of our value of Respect, which is our Term One focus.
Miss Paterson talked about examples of Respect that she has noticed around the school and heard about from others, including the swimming instructors who have been taking our students. There was also a reminder about bringing, and wearing, their sun hats.
Our assembly finished with students heading back to class with their teachers.
We did miss having our whanau there. Hopefully, by our next assembly, we will be back into Alert Level 1.
