A week of shining together - Rau Whetū
Nau mai, haere mai, greetings family and friends of Oxford Area School
Last week we had the absolute privilege to hold our annual Senior Prizegiving in the Oxford Town Hall. This is an opportunity for students to be honoured for their tenacity and hard work throughout the year and to be recognised for these efforts.
We congratulate all students, not just the prize winners, for their efforts this year. A full list of prizewinners will be published in the next few weeks.
During the evening we heard from Bonnie Howland, 2013 Oxford Area School Head Student (incidentally Thomas Robson also 2013 Head Student was in attendance in his role on the Oxford/Ohoka Community Board). Bonnie's messages to the students were very clear - simply put ensure what you do makes you happy and that it is difficult to fill someone else's heart until your own heart is full. This mantra has led Bonnie down many paths that have proven successful for her while keeping her happy. Bonnie, we are all very proud of you.
From our special awards of the event we would like to congratulate the following students:
Dux, Top Scholar: Ellie Tizzard
Proxime Accessit, Runner up to Dux: Rebecca Jones
Prime Ministers Vocational Pathways Scholarship: Tia Warwick
Sportsperson: Rebecca Jones
Runner up to the sportsperson: Ashley Riley
2020 Student Leadership Team
Head Students: Beka Hunt and Ella Taylor
Deputy Head Students: Flynn Harris and Zoe Newton
Lions Emerging Achievers Scholarship: Rebekah Buxton and Kahn Pike
With the end of the year approaching we are able to confirm a number of appointments we have recently made:
Teacher of year 7/8: James Smith
Teacher of year 7/8: Claudia Faulkner
Teacher of year 1/2: Heather Nimmo and Jodi Glassford
We are incredibly grateful as a school to have these highly skilled teachers on our staff from 2020 and look forward to them joining the team next year.
With just a few more spots to fill we will keep you updated in the coming weeks as they closeout.
Lots of exciting things are coming up in the next three and half weeks - check out the calendar and articles in this publication to keep up to date.
That is right only three and a half weeks left!
Regards,
Mike Hart
