NCEA Derived Grade Exam Week

Sharyn Whitlow —

Week 7 Monday 28th August - Friday 1st September is the NCEA Derived Grade Exam Week (practice exams) for Years 11-13 students.

Years 11-13 students will receive information about this week at the beginning of Week 5 during assembly.

The school NCEA practice assessments are very important for students to undertake with the aim of gaining their best possible grades based on their learning so far. This evidence is used for "derived grades", which indicate student achievement at this time. If a student fails to sit an end of year NCEA examination due to a legitimate reason such as a natural disaster, then their final result will be based on a derived grade.

This assessment period is also a great opportunity to practice under examination conditions and receive constructive feedback from their teachers. This allows students to make informed decisions about what they need to work on in this last part of the year.

Note, some subjects will run practical examinations or tutorials during this week. Year 11-13 students are only onsite during exam, practical or tutorial sessions. Students who are in an ARA course are expected to attend these as usual.

More details will be sent to parents and caregivers during week 5 this term.
