BYOD - exciting news for 2022

Sharyn Varcoe —

Oxford Area School is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school that uses digital leverage to deepen our students learning. In 2022, bringing your own device will be more important than ever for our Year 9-13 students.

Oxford Area School has encouraged students to bring their own device, such as a Chromebook or laptop for almost a decade. In the last two years, learning online has become an integral part of all programmes with recent data showing that our Year 9 and above students require a device for their learning for at least 3 hours of each day on average.

While the school does have some Chromebooks for classroom use, these are well utilised across year levels and there is no guarantee that they are available when your young person requires them.

Oxford Area School is currently working with suppliers to put together BYOD packages that will be available for parents and caregivers to purchase in 2022. The delay is at the supplier end, as they put a payment plan in place to make this affordable for all. The packages will include the device and warranty as well as options for comprehensive insurance and a 'hard case' to protect the device. We hope to launch this in Term 1, 2022.

In the meanwhile, we know that many of our students have devices which they used during 'learning from home' in 2020 and 2021. We strongly encourage Year 9-13 students to bring their device from the beginning of the 2022 school year to ensure they can make the most of their learning opportunities.
There will be more information early in 2022 in regards to BYOD and the process for students to connect to our school network.
