Junior South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament

Meghan Robb —

In the first week of the holidays, Miss Robb and Mrs Wells took 13 year 9/10s students to the Junior SISS (South Island Secondary Schools Tournament) which was held at Hagley courts in Christchurch. This tournament ran over the first 3 days of the holidays, and each day the girls traveled in from Oxford to play 3 games against teams all around the South Island.

On day one, the team had a great start, winning the first game. We lost the second and our last game was a draw.

On the second day of the tournament, despite the pouring rain and strong winds, the games had not yet been cancelled. The girls traveled in, played in the miserable weather, and won against Papanui High School. Unfortunately due to the unsafe conditions, the rest of the day was canceled.

The team had an early start on our final day, with our first game starting at 8.30 am. Luckily the weather had improved significantly and it was a great day to play netball. On day three, we lost one game and won two.

Overall, the OAS Year 9/10 netball team won 4 games, lost 2, and drew 1.

Miss Robb and Mrs Wells were so impressed with the girls while on the tournament. They gave it 100% at all times, they were always respectful to their opposition and umpires, and were always positive, despite the weather. The girls represented Oxford Area School well, by always showing our values, and displaying good sportsmanship.

All girls really enjoyed the tournament, and we look forward to going again next year.
