During Term 1 we had two Oxford Area school teams that played in the North Canterbury Primary Schools Summer Hockey League for 6 weeks.

Thanks to our very experienced hockey coach, Di Te Awa who supported both teams. We truly appreciate the input Di puts into our hockey teams during Term 1 and shortly for the Year 5/6 Sports programme throughout Term 2.

The Year 5/ 6 team was ably supported by Becs or Mike Hart and Lara Nicholson who managed the players and organised their transport to the games on Tuesday nights. This group are developing their basic skills to use them in their team games with steady progress through the term. Unfortunately Alice McLauchlan broke her arm so only played one game but was a keen supporter each week. Scarlett Hart, Will Hart, Hannah Mullis, Dominic Mullis, Myles McLauchlan, Eru Te Awa and Isabel Reilly were part of this team. Well done to all of you!

Millie Bourgeois, Jonty Glassford, Emily Harrison, Callum Riach, Charlize Smith, Ella Smith and Seann Zhao made up the Year 7/ 8 team, a first for Oxford to compete at this level, that also played on Tuesday nights. This group have had the benefit of Di’s coaching for a couple of years and are truly playing the game successfully displaying strong basic skills and some tactical teamwork is being used consistently. Huge thanks to Nic Smith who managed this team ably.

All are looking forward to winter hockey in Term 2 then another opportunity of summer hockey at the end of Term 3 into Term 4.
