Year 9/10 Speech Competition
“Everything becomes a little different as soon as it is spoken out loud.” (Hermann Hesse - German-born Swiss poet, novelist, and painter)
We enjoyed great success this term with our Junior Speech Competition which fell a little later than usual this year. The competition involved nine Year 9 and 10 speakers who all stood firm by the courage of their convictions. A real highlight was watching the growth in our learners’ confidence as they voiced their opinions on what truly mattered to them and, in doing so, challenged the beliefs of others. Impressively, the maturity demonstrated through their varied topic choices does indeed highlight that our young people are thinking deeply and critically about the world around them. Ka mau te wehi!
Congratulations to all students who presented their speech, and special honours to our first three placements:
Shanae Wyllie 1st
Hillary Cooper 2nd
Micah Stagg 3rd
A special thank you to Mr David Halls, Ms Sharyn Varcoe, and Miss Paula Christensen, for giving up your time to judge this competition. Given the quality of our speakers, this was no easy feat!
