Dragon Boating
Saturday the 20th of March the Oxford Mighty Dragons team drove to Lake Hood Ashburton to attend the South Island Dragon Boating Championships.
This is the first time we have attended a big regatta and raced against adults 10s teams. We had a fantastic experience racing in a bigger capacity and watching the top teams compete. The highlight of the day was racing against Southern Dragons Gold - a 10 man boat with a photo finish and a 200th of a second difference between the boats. We were absolutely thrilled!
We came away with a 1st in the 200m, 2nd in the 500m and a 3rd in the 2km in the Schools section.
Dragon Boating has gone from strength to strength over the last 3 years and hopefully, with enough interest, we can even make Nationals next year.
A huge thank you to all the parents that have supported their children to make this happen, the transportation to training and presence on the river bank and at races is really appreciated.
So if you see the following students give them a huge congratulations as for the last 6 weeks they have trained hard with strength and determination on the water. Lauren Morris, Bella Prior-Stockwin, Sofia Tizzard, Hillary Cooper, Hannah Corson, Emily Purtle, Sonja Slemint, Ashleigh Lawler, Straeci Abalos, Jordy Galway, Alex Eginton-Abbott, Zara Chittenden, Trent Stewart, Shaugn Kilgour, Toby Robson, Jack Robson, Connor Slemint, Nicholas Slemint, Noah Ebel-Wilson, Noah Crew, Anthony Gola, Cole Stagg, and Kody Stubbs
