Experiences outside the classroom

Mike Hart —

Week 7, Term 4

Kia ora koutou,

Wow, there have been a lot of activities and experience for our learners over the last week with a bike blast, school camp, Orana Park agricultural trip, Antarctic Hut virtual trip and the Year 9/10 speech competition. Nine students performed their speeches which were opinion pieces and this gave great insight into their thinking. I was again impressed by the depth of thinking from our Year 9 and 10 students, all presenting strong arguments for their opinions. This week I also had the opportunity to join our Year 7/8 students at Spencer Park for their annual camp (their first attempt was cancelled due to the COVID lockdown in March). It was a great experience for the students as they had to pitch a tent (most without instructions) and, among the many opportunities, enjoyed time on the beach - many braving the cold pacific ocean taking a dip!

As we approach the end of the year I remind you to please be sure to check in on the Educa (educa.co.nz) learning posts that are sent through to you to give you an idea of the progress and achievement your young ones are making. This is one of the ways our teachers communicate the learning taking place.

With only a week and a half remaining at school it is important we take a good look at the calendar in advance. We look forward to the two Activity Days taking place next Thursday and Friday and again we are pleased to offer all of these opportunities at no cost to our community. Our staff have been spending a considerable amount of time planning these activities and we know our students are going to enjoy the experiences.

As a reminder, our last day of the school year is Thursday the 10th of December at 12 pm when the school buses will be running.

Ngā mihi
